PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - Mark Galvin, co-founder and CEO of Whaleback Systems has announced his candidacy for the board of directors of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), a nonprofit professional association dedicated to advancing the careers of cable telecommunications professionals and serving the industry through excellence in professional development, information and standards. Galvin is on the SCTE slate for the region 12 director position which represents members in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

When asked about his desire to serve on the SCTE's board Galvin stated, "Having worked alongside so many talented engineers throughout New England, I would be honored to serve as their spokesperson at the national level. If elected, I will dedicate myself to fostering members' best interests and advancing the continued success of the Society."

Prior to launching Whaleback, the first business phone system built from the ground up for broadband, Galvin co-founded and served as president and CEO of Cedar Point Communications. Galvin led Cedar Point from inception through deployment of IP Local Exchange Carrier Telephone Switches in the cable industry. Galvin also founded and served as president and CEO of RAScom, a manufacturer of data communications equipment which delivered open system remote access servers to enterprise and Internet service provider customers. Entrepreneur magazine ranked RAScom in its 1998 and 1999 Hot 100 listings. In 1999, Galvin merged RAScom into Excel Switching and was appointed vice president of the company's Local Exchange and Access Group.

In addition, Galvin co-founded and served as president and CEO of Primary Rate Incorporated (PRI) which was included in the 1995 list of INC magazine's 100 fastest growing private companies. PRI designed, manufactured and marketed WAN and digital telephony subsystems to prominent data communications and telecommunications companies on an OEM basis. In 1995, Mark successfully merged PRI into Xircom.

Galvin, a recipient of the Journal of New England Technology All Star Award for his contributions to the telecommunications industry, has published more than a dozen articles and has spoken at numerous industry conferences on the role of emerging communications technologies.

Voting in the SCTE's election will take place January 13 through March 31, 2006. For more information about the election, please visit www.scte.org.
